The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has begun to review the possibility of using quantitative metrics in research assessment. As part of the review, they have launched a call for evidence to gather views and evidence relating to the use of metrics in research assessment and management. The deadline for responses is 1200 on Monday 30 June. Interested TRS-UK members can read more about this on the HEFCE website. Dr Meera Sabaratnam (Lecturer in International Relations, SOAS, University of London) and Dr Paul Kirby, (Lecturer in International Security, University of Sussex) have written up a response to this consultation, “Why Metrics Cannot Measure Research Quality: A Response to the HEFCE Consultation” which you can read and respond to here.
